Cleansing – Why we should consider a periodic cleanse

When someone asks you how you’re feeling do you ever just think “meh” before responding ‘I’m fine’? Or maybe you’ve recently found yourself thinking ‘I’m not really on top of my game today’. Unfortunately, we’ve been programed to identify illness with only symptoms we can point to, stomach ache, head ache, neck pain, sore throat, etc. BUT, feeling off, or down, or foggy-headed, or just not on your game can indicate the early stages of being unwell. Ayurveda’s definition of healthy is to feel vibrant and balanced in all the areas of your life! I absolutely LOVE this definition, sounds wonderful doesn’t it? One way we can achieve that balance and head off illness is with some cleansing techniques.
Cleansing can be quite transformational in our lives when we allow the process to influence our mind, body, and spirit. This is to say the digestion and absorption of our food nutrients as well as the digestion of our thoughts, and emotions all play a factor in our balance and well being. Cleansing can restore a sense of calm to the mind and nervous system as well as support a health digestion and body weight.
If the thought of cleansing causes you to feel overwhelmed or intimidated, you are not alone! I frequently talk with people who think that a cleanse must be at least for weeks or cost a fortune in order to do any good. There are many different ways to go about the cleanse process. It’s important to choose a program with the length and intensity that fits in with your individual lifestyle and constitution. The goal is to balance and strengthen the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Cleansing can be anything from a one or two-day digestive reset to a three-day detox or a one or two-week rejuvenation experience.
There are many benefits when it comes to adding a few simple Ayurvedic cleansing techniques to your routine. Just a few that you may notice rather early in the process are; improved digestion function, regular elimination, improved sense of energy, feeling mentally and emotionally grounded, balanced sleep. It is possible to all of us to experience the benefits of Ayurvedic cleansing. It’s important to be realistic, start small and give yourself permission to go at your own pace. It’s also important to seek support whenever you need it. Honor your body with some cleanse techniques and watch as your overall state of well being and balance improves.
